DPF Solutions
A Diesel Particulate Filter is an emissions device which collects the soot & other harmful particulates from the exhaust - before being released into the atmosphere. However, there is many reasons a DPF can get blocked, short journeys or infrequent high speed driving are just a couple. When a DPF does become blocked, they can be extremely costly to replace! At Intelli Tune, our software solutions prevent the issues rearising, and will save you thousands £.

The Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, was first considered during the 1970's as a preventative to harmful emmission being inhaled. These filters have been used in non-road machinery since the 90's and then some automobiles from 1985. A DPF will collect soot and other harmful paticulates from the exhaust, before then being released into the atmosphere. As you may have guessed from the name, a Diesel Particulate Filter is found in diesel powered engines, and from 2009 almost all Diesel vehicles have this emission device fitted.
What is a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

A DPF can become blocked for many reasons, the excessive soot built up overwhelms the filters ability to regenerate (self clean). For a DPF to be able to regenerate, it relies on many factors and components to all be working , here's a few examples; EGR Valve, Fuel Injectors, Turbo Charger, Oil Level, Fuel Level & thermostat - before the DPF will carry out a regeneration process, all components should be operating as expected.
What causes a blocked DPF?

Typically, a DPF will regenerate every 300 - 500 miles or after 10-hour driving period. One common reason a DPF becomes blocked is due to the DPF not regenerating due to short journeys. If you find yourself only doing short journeys, your vehicle likely isn't getting up to 90 degrees, your DPF will not begin its regeneration state and therefore becoming blocked over time. When a DPF has successfully entered its regeneration stste, you should notice a change in the engines behaviour, typically the vehicle will idle at a higher RPM, and you may also notice a smell. Once a DPF is regenerating, you should allow it to complete a full cycle, before turning the engine off.
When will my DPF regenerate?

Here at Intelli Tune, we offer comprehensive DPF cleaning services. We offer Stages 1 to 3 packages, depending on how much soot build up is in the DPF. Stage 1 Cleaning involves injecting a chemical solution into the DPF via the pre-DPF pressure line.
If the soot levels are still high post Stage 1 Cleaning, we carry out a Thermal Regeneration, which involves heating the DPF to high temperatures to burn off remaining soot.
Stage 3 then involves a final diagnostic check and test drive, to confirm the solution has worked and the DPF can begin regenerating and self cleaning moving forward.
