EGR Solutions
Exhaust Gas Resirculation (EGR) is a vital component and plays a big role in reducing nitrogen oxide, or NOx emissions. The EGR resiculates a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine, wihch then get re-burnt. EGR's were first introduced in the 70's, but widely adopted between 2002 - 2004 to meet the EPA emissions standards in the US.

The primary job of an EGR is to recycle the unburnt exhaust gases back through the engine - this is reduce the harmful nitrogen oxide released into the atmosphere. By doing so, it reduces the amount of oxygen in the air/fuel mixture, lowering combustion temperatures and subsequently reducing nitrogen oxide emissions.
What is the purpose of an EGR?

Due to the nature of the EGR's job, it is prone to becoming blocked over-time by a build up of carbon deposits and soot. A faulty EGR can lead to rough idling, increased fuel consumption and poor engine performance. These intricate valves can also get stuck, when a valve gets stuck in 1 position, limiting its ability to open or close - you will experience the same issues.
Common EGR issues

Disabling or deleting the EGR can see improvements to the performance of your vehicle. Post removal of the EGR, this reduces the carbon build up in the engine and potentially relieving the engine of stress, this ultimately improves the engines longevity. As mentioned above, removing the EGR can see better fuel economy and cleaner air intake which results in better performance.
Disabling the EGR

Yes, removing the EGR is illegal and will render the vehicle unroadworthy for UK road use - you will likely fail an MOT. Therefore, EGR removal services carried out by Intelli Tune are strictly sold for off-road use vehicles only. Before proceeding to book, you should be clear with the legislation provided by the DVSA on emission related device removals.
